Kate Beckinsale became an established action-movie female lead as early as 2003, so you won't be wrong in assuming she spends a lot of time at the gym. The 48-year-old is still going strong one decade after the release of Underworld: Awakening (she's since done the fifth and final installment of the series in 2016 and starred in the 2021 action-packed flick Jolt) and consistently works out six times a week.

Read on to learn about the activities that help her stay in shape, as well as the photographs that prove they work—and don't forget to check out the 30 Top Celebrity Swimsuit Moments to become beach-ready too!

She Does Circuit Training

Often sharing her favorite workouts on Instagram, the Hollywood star recently declared her passion for fitness with a treadmill session while balancing her cat, the Insta-famous Clive, on her shoulder. Her at-home workouts are arguably less intense than the sweat-fest intense cardio she does at the gym.

"I do circuit training interspersed with brutal cardio, such as crazy things on a nonmotorized treadmill. That part is torture," Beckinsale told Shape in 2016. "But the thing I like about circuit training is that you're never doing one thing for very long. You get to the point where you almost can't bear it, and it changes to something else."

She Loves Yoga

When she's not grinding away at the gym, Beckinsale relies on yoga to stay lean and flexible. The Pearl Harbor star, who has joked that the practice was what "partially" kept her safe from injury while shooting her action movies, dished for Shape that yoga was "all I used to do" before she discovered other things.

"But hardcore workouts have really made a big difference in my life," she said. "I have a lot of internal energy, and intense exercise helps me channel that energy. I find balance by doing a workout that makes me pour sweat. I never was that girl before, but I am now."

She Swears By Interval Training

When she says "hardcore" you can rest assured she genuinely means it. Aside from circuit training (a form of conditioning training based on endurance and resistance exercises, performed in a circuit along with high-intensity aerobics), her routine incorporates slightly-less-grueling-but-not-really interval training.

"Interval training is simply alternating short bursts (about 30 seconds) of intense activity with longer intervals (about 1 to 2 minutes) of less intense activity," explains the Mayo Clinic, noting that the benefits are burning more calories and improving your aerobic capacity, among others. Bonus: it's less time-consuming: "Interval training enables you to complete an effective workout in less time than a standard cardiovascular workout."

She Works Two Muscle Groups At A Time

Taking Women's Health readers through a typical day at the gym, Beckinsale shared in 2020 that she uses a combination of eight compound exercises to sculpt her body and work on two muscle groups at a time. Think biceps curls during squats or sit-ups with combination punches.

After the full-body workout, she gets on the rowing machine for a 90 to 120-second cardio interval and follows up with the same eight exercises, this time adding weights or bands. Both circuits take up a total of 45 minutes but she's not done yet. What follows is another cardio interval, finished off with a stretching session.

She's A Boxing Fan

Since it's easy to lose motivation at the gym, Beckinsale keeps things fresh and exciting by adding fun elements such as boxing workouts to her routine. In a 2019 Instagram video, the movie star showed off her boxing skills with an ab rollup followed by a double jab cross, and honestly, we can't stop thinking about it.

But that's not all. When she's not doing upside-down crunches, weighted squats, or battle rope exercises, Beckinsale flips tires. We'll give you a moment to process that.

Better yet, here's video proof, as The Widow star posted gym footage of herself flipping a 150-pound tire and making it look like nothing. “Avail for farm work," she hilariously wrote in the caption.
