Emilia Clarke's iconic role as the dragon-riding Khaleesi in HBO's Game of Thrones made her one of the most popular leading ladies on TV. But, while Clarke skyrocketed to fame and earned a whopping $500,000 per episode, it wasn't smooth-sailing filming nude scenes, she reveals.

The 35-year-old actress got candid about what it really felt like to do intimate scenes and expose her body at a time when she was just starting out.

On Filming Nude Scenes

Speaking to Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast, Emilia recalled her experience during the first seasons of the hit series.

According to the actress, she had just come fresh off of drama school and had never been on a major film set before.

"I’m now on a film set completely naked with all of these people, and I don’t know what I’m meant to do, and I don’t know what’s expected of me, and I don’t know what you want, and I don’t know what I want.”

And, more importantly, might we be getting a reboot?

Jason Momoa Protected Her

Playing the dragon queen Daenerys Targaryen, who had a less-than-ideal life journey, meant she was obligated to do the sex scenes for the character.

Being naked on set was terrifying for the actress but co-star Jason Momoa, who played her husband in the series, was a gentleman. “He took care of me,” Clarke explained. “He really, really—in an environment where I didn’t know I needed to be taken care of.”

Defending The Show

While the revelation has some fans raising their eyebrows, Emilia has also defended the show in the past, explaining that the controversial sex scenes are all in the book.

“It’s been done really tastefully and the beauty of all that naked stuff is that it’s all in the book and I think it all serves the character, which is my go-to for acting,” she once told People.

Setting Her Boundaries

The later seasons of Thrones have dialed down Emilia's nude scenes but it continued to haunt her long after the show wrapped. The actress shared that she has gotten other movie offers to perform nude scenes but is now more careful with her decisions.

“Now things are very, very, very different, and I’m a lot more savvy about what I’m comfortable with and what I’m okay with doing," she shared on the podcast.

"I've had fights on set before where I'm like, 'No, the sheet stays up', and they're like, 'You don't wanna disappoint your 'Game of Thrones' fans.' And I'm like, 'F--- you.'"
