How Sydney Prepared For Her Role As Eden

Per The List, Sydney shared how she had to prepare for her role as Eden Blaine In The Handmaid's Tale. For every character, the actress does a lot of research. She also writes pages from when the character was born to when they first appear in the script. The actress used this method for her role as Eden.

She made a book that included "everything from prayers to pictures because sometimes you think she wouldn't be able to read," Sydney watched season 1 of the show and read Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel to understand the laws of Gilead. She incorporated this into understanding Eden's daily life and what she learned growing up.

Bringing The Character To Life Through Costumes

Another way Sydney brought Eden to life was through the costumes. The actress also added hidden movements from other characters, such as Serena Joy clasping her hands. She also had to learn some prayers Eden would have known since she operated on faith.

Sydney talked about how she helped the costume designer Ane Crabtree. "From my underwear to my socks, everything was the character," she explained. She provided information on the outfits that Eden would wear in various situations, "that was my transformation," she shared.
