28-year-old Camila Mendes is done with playing a teenage girl in movies even though she debuted on screen as Veronica Lodge in CW's Riverdale. To avoid the risk of spending her entire career as a typecast high school mean girl, Mendes is closing the curtains on that era of her life, and embracing new opportunities starting with, Upgraded an upcoming romantic comedy that she's co-producing. She opened up to InStyle about saying goodbye to Riverdale after seven seasons.

One Last Hurrah

Mendes appreciates her time on Riverdale despite the running joke of fans saying the producers are holding the cast hostage. She acknowledged the privilege of being able to work daily as an actress.

Her drive to improve her resume and add other projects beyond Riverdale did her work in her off-season, which wasn't a long time. Two months out of twelve in a year, Mendes had time to film other projects and put herself further out there.

However, with Riverdale wrapping up this year, she's free to do as many things as possible.

All About 'Do Revenge' On Netflix

Her first point of call was sending off her typecast character with a bang in the Netflix movie, Do Revenge, opposite budding sensation Maya Hawke, 24. Mendes plays Drea, a popular high school student on her way to Yale until she loses her social capital when her rich boyfriend leaks her sex tape (a topless video of herself moaning). She finds out and teams up with newcomer Eleanor (Hawke) to take him down. The movie is now available for streaming to see how the girls fared.

Tapping Into Her Creativity

Do Revenge allowed Mendes to explore her creative side with Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who encouraged input from her cast. It also opened her eyes to the hard work of the crew, especially the directors who have to make firm decisions and be ready to back them up.

She's taking it a step further in her executive producing debut in the romantic comedies, Musica and Upgraded. Mendes would also speak Portuguese in the former as she taps into her Brazilian roots.

Becoming An Empowered Woman

Mendes is ready to embrace her adulthood with only two years left in her 20s. Posing for the Fall issue InStyle cover was the first step in the right direction as it empowered her and made the 28-year-old feel leveled up.

Bye to teenage Mendes and hello to the grown woman we're about to experience on and off-screen.
